בשנת 1963 יוצא רענן לקורס מפקדי צוללות באנגליה. בתקופת לימודיו כורעת רעייתו נעמי ללדת את בנם השלישי עודד. נבצר מרענן להשתתף בברית המילה של בנו ואת מקום הסנדק ממלא מפקד חיל הים שלמה אראל. 30 שנה לאחר מכן מבקר עודד רענן בבית הספר למפקדי צוללות באנגליה. שמו של אביו מתנוסס על שלט העץ ביחד עם מפקדי צוללות אחרים שהוכשרו שם.

Before getting the command of the Rahav, Ra'anan graduates the Submarine Commanders School in 1963 . During this time his wife gave birth to their 3rd son Oded(Odi) Ra'anan was unable to participate at his son "Brith". CIC of the navy Shlomo Ar'el served as the godfather. 30 years later Odi took this picture with the name of his father on it, while visiting Portsmouth.
